UNIT 2: THE EARTH´S PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS
BASIC COMPONENTS
In this unit we will learn about the structure of the Earth and how it was formed millions of years ago.
We will have a look at the forces that shape the Earth´s relief. Here, you will find some videos that will make learning and understanding of Earht easier.
We will also learn about the hydrosphere, which includes all the bodies of water on Earth and coastlines.
PART 1: RELIEF
The first video (1 hour and 14 minutes long) is a complete documentary about the formation of the Earth. It is a bit long but really interesting and it has an incredibly great quality of images, much better than others...

The first video (1 hour and 14 minutes long) is a complete documentary about the formation of the Earth. It is a bit long but really interesting and it has an incredibly great quality of images, much better than others...
This other video (6:37 minutes long) is about the Earth Science and the scientists that work in this field. It gives us the reasons for their investigations and the importance of their results.
I hope you find it interesting!!

Earth's landmasses were not always what they are today. Continents formed as Earth's crustal plates shifted and collided over long periods of time. This video shows how today's continents are thought to have evolved over the last 600 million years, and where they'll end up in the next 100 million years.
It is only images with texts and music but it is really visual and interesting

This is another interesting video about the formation of the continents and Plate Tectonics. It is 5:17 long and it is quite easy to understand. I highly recommend it to you...
This is a very simple but also very clear video about volcanoes
The same but related to earthquakes
Here you have a curious video in which you can see an animation of all officially reported earthquakes from January 2012 (5:17 long).
PART 2: HYDROSPHERE
This is a great introduction to the unit...
In this part of the unit you will understand the water cycle and also about the oceans and seas. We will learn about continental waters, such as glaciers, rivers, lakes and groundwater. We will try to understand that water is a vital resource for us all.
This first introductory video is about the Hydrosphere and the future of it in relationship with the climate change and the use we do of water. Nice music and true words...
Have a look at it!!!
Have a look at it!!!
This video describes the importance and the various features of the phenomenon known as hydrosphere.
THE WATER CYCLE
And here you have some videos about this interesting process called water cycle. The first one is a happy song that will serve us to warm up and to introduce the process, the second one is a bit more serious, only a bit..., and explains carefully the whole the process and many other things related to the hydrosphere

GLACIER
Let´s understand what a glacier is with this short and simple video about it

In this other one a video that shows the possible colours of a glacier... is it just white, guess, check and find out...
LAKES
Science expert Emerald Robinson explains what a lake is in a simple and visual format

This is a video about the recuperation of the Aral Sea. The Aral sea was once the fourth largest lake in the world, rich in fish, birds or other wildlife.
WAVES, CURRENTS AND TIDES
The water in the ocean and seas is in continual movement. There are three types of movement: waves, currents and tides in the next two videos you can learn something more about these movements and their potencial as an alternative power
RIVERS
This is a short video of the science expert Emerald Robinson that explains simple and clearly what a river is
GROUNDWATER
Not many people realize that 99 percent of the freshwater we use is groundwater. This video helps people worldwide to understand the importance of groundwater.
